What advice would you give the character? When and why?

The advice that I would give to the main character would be not to lie. I am reading The Secret Life of Bees and Lily is the main character. When she ran away from home and found a new family, she didn't tell them who she really was. I understand why she did what she did, but she still should have told them the truth from the beginning. Instead she made up a whole other life story that is totally different from her real life. She didn't even have to lie anyways because the three sisters she lives with already knew who she was. Instead she was always worrying all the time on when she was going to tell them who she really was. It is always better to tell the truth no matter what because when you don't you are just making things worse for yourself ans the people around you.

Good advice Marissa! I agree, lying isn't helpful and you're right, people do end up worrying about when they will have to tell the truth. It's just a big pain and it's not even worth it.

So true, Rissy! There is so much heartache that comes from telling lies. It really does not matter what other people think, so long as what we say is genuine. Lies become confusing because they never agree! If one sticks to what is real, everything is better for everyone involved.

I agree that lying isn't a good idea, but I think Lily made the right decision to lie to the Boatright sisters. I think that because she didn't know them or how they were, the lie was necessary for her to be able to stay there. I do belive that August would have let her stay even if Lily told her truth right away. But Lily didn't know when she met them if they were as kind and generous as she soon learned they were. If they weren't and they knew the truth about her, then they would probably send her on the streets.
